At Sheenashona we work closely with one of the leading British diamond companies who purchase diamonds from countries that are full participants in the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS). This is an international cooperative monitoring system created to eliminate the flow of "conflict diamonds" which are diamonds that are smuggled out of war-torn regions by those seeking to finance violence. The Kimberley Process requires the participating countries to tightly control the import and export of rough diamonds.

The Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) originated in 2002, when several governments, NGOs and the UN decided to take action. Negotiations were held in Kimberley, South Africa, to come up with a solution and the result (KPCS), instigated in 2003, would force all exporters of diamonds to produce certificates proving their gems weren't funding conflict.

Thanks to the impact of the KPCS, blood diamonds now make up less than 0.1% of the world's production, according to estimates from the Kimberley Process and the UN. Shop our diamond collection
